Somewhere on a mountainside in Guatemala, beneath the lush canopy of Sumatra, or high in the coffee-growing regions of Peru or Colombia, a coffee cherry is picked.

That’s where every great cup begins.

Long before those beans reach us, someone has planted the trees, cared for them, harvested the cherries, processed the coffee and prepared it for a journey of thousands of miles.

At Cowboy Kenny Coffee, we believe that part of the story matters.

It’s one reason we’re so excited about our new collection of coffees made from Fair Trade and organic green coffee beans.

Around here, we’ve call it premium, premium.

What Fair Trade & Organic Mean to Us

Fair Trade is about looking beyond the cup to the people and communities at the beginning of the coffee supply chain. Fair Trade programs establish standards intended to support better trading relationships, producer livelihoods, working conditions and responsible environmental practices.

Organic coffee focuses on how coffee is grown and handled, following established agricultural standards and restrictions on certain synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.

But neither Fair Trade nor organic automatically means great coffee.

The coffee still has to be exceptional.

That’s where CKC comes in.

Coffee With a Trail

CKC works closely with our coffee and roasting partner to source Fair Trade and organic green coffees from origins including Sumatra, Guatemala, Peru and Colombia, among others.

One of the things we particularly appreciate is traceability. The coffees we purchase carry lot information that follows them through the supply chain.

A lot number might not sound very exciting, but to us it represents something important: this coffee came from somewhere.

It has an origin, a journey and people behind it.

And we want to respect that.

Under One Roof

Our relationship with our roasting partner is an especially close one. Today, CKC and our partner operate under the same roof, allowing us to work side by side as these coffees become the finished roasts that carry the Cowboy Kenny Coffee name.

We taste. We evaluate. We make adjustments. And together, we work to bring out what makes each coffee distinctive.

Because responsible sourcing is only part of the equation.

It still has to taste great.

A Sumatran coffee should be allowed to express what makes Sumatra special. Guatemala, Peru and Colombia each bring their own character to the cup.

Our job, together with our roasting partner, is to respect those differences and turn exceptional green coffee into something we’re proud to share.

Premium, Premium

Cowboy Kenny Coffee is already a premium coffee company.

This collection adds another dimension to what premium can mean.

So yes, we’ve been having a little fun calling it premium, premium.

But maybe that isn’t such a bad description after all.
